Spring! :)

I tried everything. Different settings, different angles, different distances, and even putting my hand in the picture, but I could not figure out how to get my camera to focus on anything other than the background. These next three pictures are ladybug larvae.

Yay for spring!!!

The New and Definitely Improved Schedule

Alright, the schedule has cleared up significantly:

Monday: Homework
Tuesday: (Still insane) le Sommet, church activity, homework
Wednesday: Homework
Thursday: Homework
Friday: drama club

Soooooo much better! I wrote a story and here is the story of how it came about:
My two friends and I love to write but we never have a reason to write or anything to write about. We all decided to give each other different things to write about and, eventually, the end goal is to compile all the stories into a book. My first friend had to write a story that includes a platypus, my other friend has to include a giant muffin, and I have to include a talking tree. We had a week to write them. I usually write in third person and write about happy stuff, but for some reason I felt like writing a depressing story in first person. Anyways, here it is:

A Strange Tale of Change

I look out the dusty car window. My new “family” says they are taking me home, but I don’t believe them. I am practically dead already. I speak up and tell these people to take me back. Everyone shrieks and suddenly I find myself on the curb, alone. I ponder my life and when it all went wrong. It was that one fateful day in August, 2010.

I was young, beautiful, blossoming. Standing in the park day after day, I was in paradise. The beauty that surrounds me is almost surreal. Most would be miserable if put in my position, but I cannot imagine life any better. Day after day, week after week, all spent in the same solitary spot. I have one friend, and he is all I need. That is, I have one person who talks to me even though I cannot reply. The gardener. He talks, I listen. He speaks, I have no way of replying. January, February, March, April, all the same. June children come to see me, and it makes me happy to see them so full of joy now that school is out. July, the annual 4th BBQ. Finally, August, which I will soon find out will be the best, and worst, month of my life.

The gardener was telling me the usual news when he said something that surprised me. He tells me that my beauty is too wonderful to be kept locked up in this small park. Sooner than usual, the gardener leaves and doesn’t return for over a month, causing me great boredom and sadness. When he finally comes, he is holding some sort of a vial filled with an odd green liquid.

“I’ve finished it!” he exclaims. “No longer will you be confined in this tiny park!”

He tips the vial, spilling the liquid onto the dirt beneath me. “Run free,” he says, “run free young tree!” Tree? I think Is that why I am so mute and immobile? I can feel my roots lifting from the soil and transforming, followed by some of my branches turning into arms. The next thing to form is something that I have only dreamed of having, a face. Sight before this moment has always been a mystery, but through my new eyes I can see things with much greater clarity. Along with these eyes, I now have a mouth!

“Thank you,” I barely manage to whisper, “This is something I have only dreamt about.” The gardener takes of his sun hat and holds it over his heart.

“My goodness,” he says under his breath, “It works! It actually works!” I can sense his excitement as he begins to dance around. “Come home with me and see yourself,” he demands and grabs my arm. Home… this is something I have never had and have only wished to experience. Seeing this as a wonderful opportunity, I follow willingly to wherever this home may be.

Before long, I have stumbled my way, somewhat in the same manner as a baby, over to the gardener’s truck. I am told to hop on back, and I do what I am told. Moving aside a multitude of rakes, shovels, and other gardening utensils, I am able to clear a spot big enough for me to sit down. On my way to this “home”, I take the time to look down at myself. Miraculously, I am wearing a leaf-green shirt and blue jeans, though where they came from, I have no idea. My hands are covered in rough skin, about the same hue as the gardener’s. Coming into view is a brick wall that stretches, continuing on to form the house of the gardener.

I am lead inside to a mirror, where I can finally see my full self. Eyes the color of the grass I know so well, hazelnut colored hair, and a single cherry blossom tucked neatly behind my ear.

“I’m…” I stutter.

“Beautiful,” the gardener finishes. Although this may be true, it is evident that I am not human. Rough patches of skin where the bark still partially remains, and, if the sunlight hits just right, green streaks in my hair that are marks of the leaves that were once there. Sensing my discomfort and the reason for it, the gardener says, “I can fix that.” I decline, knowing that, although I am sure the new life I will soon begin will be wonderful, I would miss having this small reminder of who, or what, I used to be.

“Thanks for everything, but I must be going if I am to figure out what this life is all about,” I say.

“How true, how true,” said the gardener, “but that’s a lot like life I guess. You get somewhere only to find that you must be going again. Farewell and good luck.”

I step out the front door onto the cold, hard pavement, only to look down and realize that I’m not wearing any shoes! I know my feet will soon be freezing cold, but this fact does not bother me. I am prepared to walk as long and as far as I need to go.

Five miles later, I come across one of the scariest things I have ever seen in my life. Hundreds of trees, all cut down and stuck in sacks. An abandoned nursery. I stare at one of my own kind, a cherry tree. I am very afraid that this could have been my fate. Looking around at the other cherry trees, I begin to cry. I could have known any one of these trees! One of them could even be my sister. I begin to think why couldn’t it have been me? I find a solitary corner of the nursery and curl up to cry.

“I want to go back! I want to go back!” I cry to myself. I try to console myself, but it doesn’t work at all.

Suddenly I feel a tingling sensation and I look downwards. Waist up, nothing has changed, but below is no longer legs. I realize that the fate of those cherry trees will soon be mine when I see the sack where my legs and feet once were. Before long nothing human is left except my mouth, eyes, and nose. After what seems like forever, a car pulls up. A family of four climbs out of the car and walks in my direction.

“This one!” shouts the youngest as the mother brags to the father about how she was right about the location of the abandoned nursery.

“Good choice,” agrees the father. They pick me up and stick me in the back of their car. Everyone climbs in and we begin to drive off.

Presently, I am sitting on the curb, reminiscing about the past. It is now that I realize it that our deepest wants truly do control our destiny.

My friends all loved it, even though I thought it was just depressing. My one friend helped me think of the ending that is really deep. The thing about the wants controlling our desires. Hope you liked it!

Funny Stories

I have been hearing and remembering a lot of stories lately. Here are some of the really funny ones I have heard. They are all true stories.

My sister was in English class today and her teacher, Mrs. Cummings, was telling the students about funny moments in her teaching career. One of them was when her class was having a debate. They were split into two sides and while she was talking to one side, her back was turned to the other. While her back was turned, she heard a loud THUD that sounded like a baseball bat hitting a desk and then cracking. She was afraid to turn around because she knew it would be bad. When she turned around, she found one of her students knocked out on the ground. It turns out he had been so nervous about answering the question that he had locked his knees, fallen forward, hit his head on the desk, and knocked himself out. She was frantically telling one of the students to call 911 and another to call the principal. She called the mom of the student and told her what happened. The mom was very understanding, but then she told Mrs. Cummings, "That's ironic. This is the second time this happened!"

One time Josh and Bailey White were fighting in the back of their car. Finally, their dad said, "All I want to hear is the sound of silence!" A few seconds later you hear Bailey in the back sing, "Hello darkness, my old friend."

My friend Marcea just got an itouch. it is like and ipod but you can put apps on it. It is pretty much an iphone without the phone. She has a bunch of funny pictures on it. Here are some of them:

A while ago, while I was in my sixth grade science class, we were working in groups on a model of the layers of the Earth my group had been talking when we ran out of things to talk about and got quite. A few seconds later a boy in my group named Sander Kusion said, "My parents were tempted to name me whoopy." We all started cracking up and could not stop until the end of class. If you don't get it then just look back at the name of the guy who said it.

This story is about the same boy, Sander, in the same class, science. My science teacher, Mr. Demers, was trying to get someone to say the word fissures, which was the answer to the question he was asking. He said, " Come on guys! What's the F word?" almost immediately Sander's hand shot up into the air. Mr. Demers then said, "Wait! Not that kind! But Sander, promise me that if you don't become a scientist when you grow up, then please be a comedian."

I was in a summer class for orchestra. We had class every Thursday, but we were going to have one week off. Our teacher, Mr. Benefield, made the first chair violinist say, "I have no class next week." Almost immediately, a girl named Alyssa Weyland started laughing. Mr. Benefield said, "Raise your hand if you get it." Most of the class raised their hands, but it took a while for some people to figure it out. Do YOU get it?

My cousins, Brooklynn and Kelsey (from an earlier post), were over at my house. My sister decided to play a few songs on the piano. The girls were making requests for songs like "Take me Out to the Ball Game" which they happily sang to. When it came time to make another request, Kelsey went over to my sister and asked her if she could play the song "Yippee Ki Yay Mini Sirloin Burgers". For those of you who don't know, this was a Jack in the Box commercial for mini burgers. It has mini cowboys riding mini horses and herding mini cows while singing about the new mini sirloin burgers. It was quite hilarious.

My dad was supposed to be taking pills to help him improve his memory. He was telling his friends about them, but when he was trying to tell them what they were called, he couldn't remember. (Can you see where this is going?) He asked my mom, who told him, and then he continued talking to his friends about them. After that, he said, "Yeah! They're great! The only problem is that I keep forgetting to take them."

It was my uncle's birthday, so we went over to his house to celebrate. We were opening presents and he got one from his mother in law. When he opened it, it turned out to be an air freshener spray called "After That". I always think it's times like that where you have to wonder whether to say thank you or be insulted.

Last night I was humming the presidential song. My mom said, "Did you know that was in a movie? The president wanted to know the words to it, but no one knew them. He decided that he was going to make some up. He finally decided that the words would be 'Hail to the Chief! I'm the chief and I need hailing.' " (OK. I know you are all humming this in your head know.) My sister and I were laughing very hard for a while after.

My sister's friend, Ryan, was over to hang out. He came into the house and walked past the picture of Jesus in our hallway, pointed to it, and said, "Look! It's John Smith!" My mom walked by and said, "Your close Ryan! That's Jesus."

Music

You know how I have a music player on my side bar? Well I'm trying to decide what music to put on it. Since you guys are the ones who will be listening to it, I figured that I would ask you what your favorite music is and then put that music on it. In other words, please comment and tell me what your favorite music is!

School

Does anyone else's school get homework on the first day? I got an hour of homework today. Is it just me or does my school seem crazy? I mean, I'm only a seventh grader! If we got this much homework on the first day, I can't even imagine what the homework will be like later in the year! My science teacher even said that we would have more homework than we had in sixth grade, when I had about 2-3 hours a night! Let's just say that the future of this school year does NOT look bright.Did I mention that I have literally almost 100 math questions for homework on Thursday? This is going to stink. :-( On the bright side (This will probably only be exciting to those of you who are LDS.) I was interviewed by my bishop today and graduated into young women's!! I got the For Strength of Youth pamphlet and everything! My birthday is not until the 16th, so I can't say the article of faith in sacrament or go to young women's until the twentieth, but this means that I am just two weeks away! I can't wait!!!

Help Support the Animal Shelter!!

Slide Seven on this doesn't really work, but if you just press the button at the bottom to go to the next slide, slide 8 works.
